Rebecca + Michael

For two New York writers, there could not have been a more perfect Houston wedding venue than the historic Julia Ideson Library. Nestled in the heart of downtown, this building stands out among sleek skyscrapers with its intricate architecture, beautiful courtyard and interior rooms lined with shelves housing hundreds of books. This venue suited Rebecca + Michael’s romantic and literary vision perfectly, and was conveniently located in the bride’s hometown.

Once we secured the venue, each detail of Rebecca + Michael’s wedding was chosen and designed to highlight the dreamy feel of the building, while also playing off the library theme. After watching the bride + groom exchange vows on the front steps of the library, guests were ushered into the building’s lobby for cocktail hour. Here they could sign in + leave the couple well wishes on a vintage typewriter, as well as read about the building’s rich history on display throughout the first floor.

Tucked in a nook on the staircase sat a surprise for Rebecca, arranged by her mother. A pair of glass slippers were displayed alongside a sign reading “If you keep on dreaming, the dreams that you wish will come true,” a quote from the bride + her late grandmother’s favorite book to read together.

Continuing up the stairs, guests found their place cards on a unique tiered display, and then made their way into the Reading Room for dinner. The space was bordered by wooden shelves filled with books. To personalize the space, family wedding photos were added to several shelves. Custom cocktail napkins were also placed at the bar, featuring a drawing of a bride that Rebecca created as a child. A long head table seating over 40 people was placed in the center of the room, topped with a delicate lacey linen. A runner made of greenery, silver branches + candles spanned the length of the table, with several tall candlesticks topped with floral added in. Floral centerpieces with pops of blue that mirrored the color of the bridesmaid dresses sat atop each guest table, along with tons of candles to give the room a romantic glow.

From the venue selection and décor, to the personal touches, each detail of Rebecca + Michael’s wedding day came together seamlessly to reflect their love for literature, and most importantly, for each other.
